THE sights, sounds and smells of medieval village life will be recreated at Buckland Abbey.

The Medieval Free Company re-enactment group will be setting up camp outside the 700-year-old Great Barn for the weekend of August 9 and 10.

They will spend the weekend in authentic period costume, working and eating as if they were living in 15th century England.

Michael Coxson, property manager at Buckland Abbey, said: ?We are very pleased to welcome back this exciting company.

?They provide wonderful hands-on insight into medieval life and are always eager to share their skills and stories with our visitors.?

Craftspeople from the company will be demonstrating their skills, including making arrows, wood carving and fashioning chainmail armour.

And a medieval herbalist will be on hand with remedies for just about any ailment.

Visitors to Buckland Abbey on the weekend of August 9 and 10 will not be charged extra for the medieval entertainment.
