THE Robey Trust took delivery last weekend of a rare Robey Steam Wagon after completing a journey from Lincolnshire on a transporter lorry .

A small group of curious onlookers in Down Road had the experience of watching it being unloaded and towed to the Trust's premises nearby.

Built in 1926, it is one of only two in this country, and another two overseas.

It is painted in an unusual deep green colour, and carries the livery of a now defunct Lincolnshire brewery.

Unexpectedly, it became available recently and negotiations to bring it to Tavistock were successful.

Over the next few weeks it will be inspected and put into steam by the Trust volunteers.

It should be making its first local public appearance at Tavistock Steam Fair, which takes place on Sunday, June 2.
