A LIFELONG love of railways has resulted in a splendid new book of his paintings and a first one-man exhibition for artist Nick Luff.

The exhibition at Brown?s Hotel, West Street, Tavistock, was opened by town mayor Cllr Jenny Metcalf on Friday to coincide with the launch of his book, ?Steam Railways of Devon and Cornwall?.

Nick, 55, who lives at Gulworthy, is a former railwayman who worked on the Southern Region at Guildford in the final years of steam.

He and his family have been settled in the West Country for the past 20 years where he has turned his impressive artistic skills to depicting the railway delights of the region.

Nick?s atmospheric subjects range from the mainline to a study of horses hauling trucks on the Haytor tramway. His pictures show great attention to detail as his brush strokes recreate the nostalgic railway world of the steam era.

The exhibition runs at Brown?s Hotel from 10am to noon and 3pm to 11pm daily until July 9.

Nick Luff?s book ?Steam Railways of Devon and Cornwall? which contains a total of 36 images of the golden age of steam is published by Bossiney Books at £7.99.
