AN invitation has been given to view the award-winning documentary Stealing A Nation at the Studio in Kingdon House, Tavistock.
John Pilger's film reveals the story of the secret expulsion of the population of the Chagos Islands in the Indian Ocean by successive British governments, so that the principal island, Diego Garcia, could be handed to the United States as a military base.
Stealing A Nation is a story told by islanders now in the slums of Mauritius, and has won the Royal Television Society's top award as Britain's best documentary in 2004-2005, and a Chris Award at the Columbus International Film and Video Festival.
The film will be introduced by Greenpeace skipper Pete Bouquet, who will take questions and give an update on the Chagos situation. He will also show footage of his own recent trip to Chagos.
Stealing A Nation will be shown on Monday April 26, at Kingdon House in Pym Street, opposite the Ordulph Arms, at 7.30pm.
All are welcome to attend the evening and admission is free.
