THE Bridestowe Garden Club held its second annual garden show on Thursday September 14 in the Methodist Church. There were 87 entries, which was up on last year. The turnout was good and the standard excellent. The judges Brian Wonnacott and Pat Andrews were very impressed with the standard of exhibits. They praised the entrants for their hard work and effort to produce an excellent show. The show committee were also pleased with the entries from a membership of only 36 members. During the judging an excellent talk and demonstration was given by Roger and Anne Bowden, founders of the famous hosta nursery at Sticklepath. They both spoke on different aspects of hostas ? their history and general background, their care, propagation etc. They showed some wonderful slides of just a few of the 1500 or so different varieties of hostas they have at home and thus thoroughly whetted members? appetites for the planned club visit next year. Non-members are always welcome at the meetings; the next one is on Thursday October 12 in the Methodist Hall, starting at 7.30pm.
