AN East Cornwall community is gearing up to hold a village fair to celebrate its 175-year-old post office — England's longest running Post Office branch. The traditional Cornish fair, on June 14, is a celebration linked to the anniversary of the opening of Stoke Climsland Post Office in 1839, and a testament to the strong community that exists in the village and surrounding parish. Postmistress Sue Watts said: 'We started in January with a massive turnout for the celebration, marking the opening of our post office in 1839. Since then we have had a couple of fantastic fundraisers to help make this fair a big celebration for the whole community. The fair is a way of celebrating our life in a traditional Cornish village. 'The fair is set to use the whole village, pulling together all of the elements and organisations in our community that make this such a fantastic place to live. It will be like using the village as a huge stage where events will be held and people can walk around enjoying the entertainment.' 'Some of the attractions already confirmed are a dog show, maypole dancing, cream teas, pony rides, Cornish cloggers, craft stalls, birds of prey to name just a few. It is going to be a fantastic day for the whole community organised by the community.' Stoke Climsland Village Fair is being held on June 14, starting at 11am on the village green with events throughout the day at a variety of locations. Evening entertainment will be held on the village green in the main marquee starting at 6.30pm with live music, a hog roast and licensed bar until 11.30pm.
