LIVE music lovers in Okehampton are in for a treat as one of the brightest new bands on the heavy metal scene prepare to rock the town. Okehampton's first heavy metal gig is all set to take place next weekend with the hope it will be the springboard to bring more live music to West Devon. On Saturday, May 31 Speedtheory, Inferno and FreakbyWire will be playing at the Pretoria Vaults on North Street, Okehampton. The event is being organised by Janice Elson, who runs Okehampton's independent music store Rock Hen's Coop. Securing Speedtheory and Inferno to play in Okehampton is a major coup for the town. Said Janice: 'This is a fantastic opportunity for people of all ages in Okehampton. It could prove to be a huge step to securing future live music events. 'It's important for fans of live music to support this special event so we can have more like it in the future.' Speedtheory, who will be travelling to Devon from Wolverhampton, have been heavily praised by genre magazine Metal Hammer who said 'their tight, fast and often melodic heavy metal comes straight out of the genre's glory days'. Inferno, who play more along the lines of Metallica, will travel from North Wales especially for the gig. The opening act of the night will be West Devon's FreakbyWire who will kick off proceedings at 7.30pm. Doors open at 7.30pm and there will be a 10.30pm curfew. Tickets cost £5 on the door or £4 with a promotional leaflet available from Rock Hen's Coop. On the afternoon of Saturday, May 31, Speedtheory will be in Rock Hen's Coop to meet fans and talk about their music. Proceeds from the event will go towards securing funds for similar events.
