A NIGHT of drama and puppetry combined with one of the largest firework displays in the South West ? organisers are getting in action for the 24th Sticklepath Fireshow on November 5. This year?s show is called ?Pun-tasia? and although the story is a closely guarded secret, it is well laden with more than the usual liberal sprinkling of humorous oneliners. Costing many thousands of pounds to put on, the show involves a good number of the local community, with more than 200 volunteers having a go at everything from puppet and costume making, building and painting the elaborate set, to ensuring the spectators are safely looked after on the night. Professional sound and lighting will enhance the show, which culminates in a traditional fireworks display and bonfire where volunteers will see all their hard work go up in flames! The event attracts spectators, young and old, from far and wide and attendance figures are usually around 3,000. It all takes place at the Finch Foundry Field, Sticklepath. Gates open at 6pm and the show begins at 7.30pm. There is only very limited parking in the village so a free shuttle bus service from Okehampton and back again after the show will be available. There are hot refreshments on site but organisers have stressed that alcohol, along with fireworks and sparklers, are not allowed on site. Adult tickets are £6.00 and under 14s are £2. They are available in advance from The Store in Sticklepath, The Store in South Zeal or Donald?s Menswear or The Flower Pot in Okehampton. The show will only be postponed if extremely high winds occur, which would endanger the safety of crowds. If this occurs, it will be rescheduled for November 10, same time and place.
