THE prolonged sunny spell in July has been a great help to organisers of the Okehampton Show, who have declared the event will go ahead today (Thursday).

Despite heavy rain in the past few days, the showground has been able to cope thanks to one of the best summers in recent memory.

At the time of going to press, the forecast for show day was cloudy but with some sunshine.

Show secretary Claire Woodward said: 'Things are looking great for this year's show, and we are very busy with the last moment preparations.

'The show field and the car parking fields are all in a good condition, despite a few days of heavy rain, and the sunshine last month has helped with that.

'The tracks are all looking good too, and access to the site should be fine for everyone planning to visit.

'We have had a good number of entries across the board, and very importantly, the weather looks like it should be okay on the day, fingers crossed.'

The traditional countryside event, where the animals take pride of place, is a very popular attraction and a great opportunity to meet with friends from far and wide.

With all day entertainment there is plenty for everyone to see and do throughout the day.
