THE stage is set for a second outing of Okehampton's new and exciting open mic night. The first open mic night, organised by Janice Elson of Rock Hen's Coop and held at the King's Arms, was a huge success with performers coming from as far away as Torquay to showcase their talents. Janice said: 'There were about ten different acts that performed, including a gentleman, who makes his own North American Indian flutes and a young lady with a fabulous voice who sang to some backing tracks and has now been given an audition for a blues/soul band on the strength of her performance. 'There were a few acoustic singer songwriters with a bluesy feel and the evening was rounded off with a group of five musicians, Okehampton's own super-group, having a jamming session to end in style.' Since the evening, Janice has received extremely positive feedback and the next open mic night will be held on Thursday April 3 starting from 8pm at the King's Arms. The open mic night provides the opportunity for different creative performers to showcase their talents to a live audience. As well as music, this could include monologues, poetry and comedy. Entrance is free although people are invited to make a contribution towards the running costs if they wish to. Janice added: 'I couldn't have done this without the help of Geoff from Aardvark Studios and his partner who supplied the equipment and organised the flow of acts.' Janice can be contacted at Rock Hen's Coop on 01837 659249 for further information.
