St George will meet Old Father Christmas and take on the Turkish Knight in a traditional seasonal Mummers play performed by Lodestone Border Morris dancers on Thursday, December 20.

There will be a host of peculiar characters including a Doctor and other surprises.

Mummers Plays were a popular form of Victorian entertainment over the Christmas period and there are records of a play performed in Tavistock.

Master Mummer Stephen Newland said:?'Folk used to say 'Christmas wasn't Christmas without the Mummers. Our play is based on an original West Country text.'

You can catch the play at the Walkhampton Inn, Walkhampton, at 7.45pm; Drake Manor Inn, Buckland Monachorum, at 8.30pm; and

at the Tavy Club, Tavistock, 9.15pm.
