THE visitors produced a much improved performance in this midweek fixture to that which they had produced at the weekend, but two goals in the final 20 minutes left them still searching for their first point this season.
Saints looked dangerous throughout the first half but a resolute performance from the visitors resulted in a goalless first half.
In the second half the confident home side took the lead on 70 minutes when a throw in was inadvertently helped in to the path of a Saints attacker by a Gunnislake defender and the centre forward made no mistake beating keeper Mark Southcott with a powerful shot.
Five minutes from time Saints sealed their victory with a well taken goal.

AT the fourth attempt Gunnislake gained their first points of the current campaign.
The first goal came on 20 minutes when Steve Cribb showed good perseverance to earn a free kick some 20 yards from goal. Matt Avery?s goal-bound strike took a deflection to beat the home keeper.
Saints hit the visiting crossbar before Gunnislake scored an excellent second goal. Having claimed a Saints centre, keeper Mark Southcott found left back Steff Kelly with an accurate throw out. Kelly steamed up the touchline before sending Andy Wilson in on goal and with the home keeper advancing Wakem brilliantly lobbed him from nearly 30 yards.
Gunnislake started the second period on top before Saints had a 10 minute spell in the middle of the half. Gunnislake weathered this well and for the remainder of the match proceedings were end to end.
This Saturday Gunnislake host St Blazey with a 2.30pm kick off.
