ON behalf of Girlguiding in Tavistock, I would like to thank local residents for their kind support of our 2010 Christmas Post. 7.000 cards were posted in our boxes again this year and the girls as usual did their best to deliver them all over the snowy weekend of December 18-19.

The weather made transport and walking very difficult and I would like to praise all the Guides and their parents for making such a tremendous effort in such testing conditions.

We do regret not being able to send seven cards without addresses, and we also had to deal with over 20 addresses to surrounding villages and even places as far away as St Austell — a bit outside our walking range! Hopefully everyone received their post well before Christmas and was happy with our service.

Community service forms a major part of the Guiding programme and we are always looking for different ways to help in the community.

After a busy year of events celebrating the Centenary of Girlguiding, the girls are still keen to help in their local community and look forward to giving further service in the future.

Ours is an exacting movement for both girls and leaders. Anyone interested in getting involved in Girlguiding is welcome to contact me on Tavistock 613661, Janet Piper on 613865 or Rica Olver on 612743.
