The Mayor of West Devon, Cllr Christine Grills, chose her parish church of St Andrew?s, Bere Ferrers for her Civic Service on Sunday, October 17.
Rector the Rev Nick Law headed the civic procession, with churchwardens Daphne McDonald and George Nash; the Mayor and consort ? husband Norman Grills; Deputy Lieutenant of Devon, Margaret Garton; Lord Mayors of Exeter and Plymouth; Mayors of Tavistock and Torbay; Mayor and Mayoress of Okehampton; and the Chairman of North Cornwall District Council.
The choir sang the introit and anthem ?Day by Day?. Organist was Valerie Asater. Readings were given by Cllr Dick Eberlie and Cllr Margaret Garton. The Mayor of West Devon read ?Footprints? and the Rev Jeff Moles, Methodist minister, gave the address.
The collection £235 will be given to the Mayor?s charity, the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Following the service the congregation was invited to join the Mayor and civic party for tea in Bere Ferrers Social Club, during which Cllr Grills gave a speech thanking those who had attended the service, her family for their support, and her secretary Janet Rosser ? to whom she presented a bouquet in celebration of her birthday.
