WASN?T it encouraging to see Bedford Square thronged with people, including many visitors last Saturday morning (April 30), chatting, viewing the stalls and listening to the enjoyable, suited-to-all-tastes music of the Stannary Brass Band (which included very many young people among its excellent players)? It felt like a continental piazza, which of course must be a rarity in our climate! Do you recall how many local people were apprehensive about the square becoming paved? We don?t just mean those who regretted the loss of a free parking space or those politically motivated to attack the controlling party at the county. Many genuinely believed the square would be a dull place without the buzz of traffic. Perhaps their fears are now assuaged.
