TAVISTOCK's Bedford Square will reverberate to the sound of drama and music this Sunday as churches of the town join together for their annual Pentecost celebration.

The different fellowships will forsake their own services in order to mark together the occasion when Jesus's disciples became filled with Jesus's Spirit.

Chair of Tavistock Area Christians Together (TACT), David Palmer, said: 'There are likely to be a good couple of hundred people in the Square.

'On that first Pentecost day, the disciples talked excitedly outside in the streets, so it's very appropriate that we'll celebrate the occasion in the open air.'

In recent years, the churches have met together for Pentecost, or Whitsun, and then gone their separate ways for communion — but this year, like last year, they'll be sharing communion together.

The Rev Michael Brierley, priest in charge at Tavistock Parish Church, said: 'That shows the real strides that we've made in coming together and working together.

'There's so much that we can do together as churches, and it all begins from meeting together and enjoying the humour of each other's company.'

All are welcome at the service at 10am, which will be led by the Rev Jeff Moles of Tavistock Methodist Church, and the Rev Miranda Donne of St Andrew's, Whitchurch. If the weather is inclement, the service will be moved into St Eustachius' Church.
