THERE are two parts of the Tavistock story which have, sadly for many, come to be regarded as no more than an impediment to satisfactory parking.
I refer to the beautifully proportioned statue of the Duke of Bedford, and to our town war memorial.
The newly developed square needs a focal point, and the relocation of the statue to the front of the town hall would give a proper recognition of our town history.
The war memorial , located opposite this, into the church grounds, would have its rightful prominence, add balance to the square, and facilitate the Remembrance service.
We need to protect our town's assets from the continual demand for more parking space, and a determination to protect and develop the square at the heart of Tavistock, would ensure this.
