TAVISTOCK'S Air Cadets were delighted when an ex cadet literally dropped in from the sky recently.

Wing Commander Mark Biggadike MBE, who is the officer commanding 33 Squadron at RAF Benson, arrived on Whitchurch Down in a Puma 2 helicopter, which was on a training flight.

Cadets had a brief look at the helicopter before it resumed its mission. Mark then visited the squadron HQ at Crelake Cadet Centre where he gave 40 cadets and six members of staff a talk on his career. He impressed on the cadets present not to give up on their ambitions and keep trying to achieve their chosen career.

Mark started his flying in gliders at 624 Squadron at RAF Chivenor, where his father Brian was an instructor and CO of the unit.

A tour of the squadron revealed how facilities and equipment have changed since Marks time as a cadet.

The squadron hopes to make a visit to 33 Squadron in the New Year.

2312 (Tavistock)Squadron currently has two officer vacancies. Anyone interested should call 01822 612743 to speak to John Olver CO for details.
