STAFF at one of Okehampton?s largest employers are facing job losses with the transfer of sales administration work to the company?s Somerset base. Members of staff at Sprung Slumber in Okehampton ? a subsidiary of Steinhoff International Ltd ? were told last week that redundancies may be required as part of reorganisation and rationalisation going on within the business. The firm say they have begun a consultation process which will determine how many jobs will go. Sprung Slumber say they are setting out to reduce redundancies wherever possible, and the number of people affected will be fewer than 20. The firm is relocating its sales administration operation to Wellington, the company having previously transferred its finance operations to Somerset. A spokesman for Sprung Slumber said the firm remained committed to manufacturing in Okehampton, despite the relocation of its sales administration operation. Sprung Slumber in North Road, Okehampton currently employs around 115 people.
