LOCAL organisations could be asked to help sponsor noticeboards in the town should the town council decide to look into erecting them in Okehampton.

Councillors discussed the possibility of erecting noticeboards in the town at the recent parks committee meeting.

The boards would provide local organisations, clubs and charities with focal points in the town to promote their events.

While discussions on whether or not to erect the boards are still in the early stages, Cllr Jan Goffey in particular was keen to see them put up.

She said: 'You see posters all over the town and in shop windows.

'The sooner people know they have somewhere to put a poster up and have it be seen, the better.'

The council was keen to make sure that any new boards or signs would fit in with Okehampton's overall aesthetic.

Cllr Michael Ireland said: 'If noticeboards were to go up, they would need to be tasteful and fit in with our Dartmoor town.'

They also discussed the possibility of inviting town organisations to help fund the boards through sponsorship, and discussed potential sites around the town for such boards, including Fairplace Terrace.

The issue will be discussed again at the next parks committee meeting.
