TAVISTOCK Community Sports Centre has issued a final call for membership after local people rushed to take advantage of the new facilities.
The centre's gym, located at Tavistock College, is nearing capacity just four months after opening, thanks to the excellent response from the community.
Duncan Godfrey, Tavistock College's community sports development manager, said: 'Nearly all our gym memberships have been snapped up so it's the last chance to join. Once full, any potential members will have to join a waiting list.
'The facilities are well used and well looked after; they're cleaned twice daily and there is a regular equipment maintenance programme.'
A packed programme of classes — including pilates, yoga and spinning — is included in the monthly membership, as well as use of the athletics track and other facilities.
'People are always talking about what good value it is,' added Duncan. 'It's a great atmosphere and the staff are friendly and helpful.'
Duncan said the college was a hive of activity with people on the track and in the sports hall, dance studio and gym every night. The new third generation all-weather football pitch is also booked up every evening by local clubs and teams.
'We've had our licence to use the floodlights extended to 10pm so even more local clubs can make use of the facilities,' he said. 'Even after offering the additional time, the only slots we've got left on the football pitch are 9pm to 10pm on two nights a week.
'It's excellent value for money because it's about providing the community with extra facilities and we're having regular matches for local teams at the weekend.'
