Bere Alston United 1
Launceston 1
HAVING asked his side to end the season with a flourish, Bere manager Kevin Taylor must have thought his request had fallen on deaf ears as there was a definite end of season lethargy about their performance.
Launceston were far livelier all afternoon and but for a superb goalkeeping display from Bere's Sam Martin the home side could have ended this game a well beaten.
As early as the fifth minute Sam Martin had to make a smart save from Launceston's Scott Buckland and then made a stunning save from a point blank Ward header.
Bere's midfield were struggling to get to grips with Launceston's Paul Banks and Adam Crabb but they slowly began to get into the game with Nick Aplin and Dan Pethick both going close and then Dan Follett was put through one on one with the keeper but had his effort blocked.
Bere took the lead after 20 minutes when Nick Aplin seized on some uncertainty from the Launceston centre half and slotted the ball past the keeper.
Launceston then equalised eight minutes later when Paul Cowling's through ball was misjudged by Mark Wheeler and Scott Buckland nipped in to prod the loose ball past Sam Martin.
Bere were dealt a blow shortly before the break when Dan Pethick, who had been feeling ill before the game, had to be replaced.
Launceston had the lion's share of possession in the second half with both sides relying on breakaway chances and both defences standing firm.
Bere's Marcus Pethick and Graham Galway both went close whilst Sam Martin did brilliantly to tip a Paul Banks free kick onto the post and made two further saves from Paul Cowling and Adam Crabb to earn his side a share of the spoils.
