A SPITFIRE Weekend will be held at Knightstone Tea Rooms, Yelverton, this Bank Holiday weekend. The RAF Harrowbeer Interest Group will take their airfield exhibition to the tea rooms for the Saturday, Sunday and Monday and will be joined by members of the Spitfire Society. The group will be on hand to answer questions about the former RAF station and will offer a free guided walk around the old airfield at 2pm on each of the three days. Each walk will last two hours and take in all aspects of the airfield's life. The airfield was built in 1940 and was operational between 1941 and 1946. The runways and airfield buildings were demolished in 1961 leaving only the taxiways and dispersal bays. The Harrowbeer group is still interested in hearing from any airfield ground or admin staff, or aircrew who flew from the airfield. For further details of the weekend or to provide information on the airfield contact Stephen on 01822 855336 or visit http://www.rafharrowbeer.co.uk">www.rafharrowbeer.co.uk
