ORGANISERS of the popular RAF Harrowbeer 1940s weekend, which takes place in August, received a boost recently with the news that the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight has offered to have one of its Spitfires give a flypast at the event.

The flypast will compliment the ‘Spitfire Spares’ replica Mk IX Spitfire which has become a major feature of the event, with its working 27-litre Merlin engine, which is fired up every hour during the weekend event.

The 1940s weekend is now in its fourth year and continues to grow in popularity, both with the public and with WWII re-enactors and vintage vehicle owners.

This year, the weekend will take place on August 12 and 13, with the flypast taking place on the Saturday.

The event runs from 10am to 5pm on both days and is free for everyone to enjoy.
