Plymouth Civil Service v Tavistock TAVISTOCK travelled to Plymouth Civil Service in good spirits following the previous week?s result against Whitchurch. But they were soon brought crashing down to earth by Plymouth, especially in the shape of S Colwell, who saw off the Tavistock opening attack. He took a frightful blow in the process but battled on to a fine 85. He was ably supported by S Dent and P Smith and nearing the end of Plymouth?s innings Roger Whittingham took a very well bowled hat trick. Then Tavistock came to bat and from the beginning they were creating trouble for themselves. With ten overs gone they were three wickets down, with B Thomas at the wicket trying to start a rearguard action ? supported, if only by eating up time, by J Rich and D Jeffrey ? before being caught behind. Up stepped Messrs Milligan and Gliddon who added 40 for the final wicket and saw the game out to a draw, of which a very impressive 30 were contributed by Gliddon. Men of the match: Plymouth Civil Service, S Colwell; Tavistock, S Gliddon.
