A NEW future seems settled for The Old Folk's Rest Room clients, following a meeting with Tavistock Area Support Services and trustees of the rest room.

A joint trustees' meeting last week took place between two groups, to look at the issues relating to the decision by rest room trustees to fold the charity.

For the last four months, the Anchorage Centre has provided the opportunity for the elderly to visit and meet friends on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings, while the rest room trustees considered all options. The arrangement has proved successful with local people and visitors.

Diane Nancholas, chair of TASS said: 'TASS is keen to continue supporting the members of the rest room in offering a place for older people to meet and feel that this service is very much in keeping with our own outreach work. We will be in discussion with the rest room trustees to ensure everything possible is done in the best interest for our client group.'

Yvonne Meneer, chair of the rest room said: 'We are very happy that the spirit of the rest room will continue at the Anchorage Centre and this is a wonderful opportunity to develop further work undertaken by TASS in helping support older people living within our community.'

Andy Lyle, general manager of TASS, said: 'We are excited at this opportunity to continue the development of services for older people.'
