IF you need help from a comic-strip hero best call Superman — Spiderman could keep you hanging around.

The web master caused quite a panic among fans in Okehampton on Friday. Instead of sitting comfortably when they turned up at the Carlton Cinema they were greeted by anxious cinema owner John Pope.

The word on the street was: no word from Spiderman.

The reel containing his latest celluloid adventures was out there somewhere. But certainly nowhere near Okehampton.

Mr Pope placated his patiently waiting audience — and made some desperate enquiries.

'The last time something like this happened was Papillon with Dustin Hoffman and Steve McQueen — and that was about 30 years ago,' he said.

The film had been on its way from Southampton and was due to arrive at 6pm. But there was an unexpected twist to the plot — Spiderman had become entangled in a traffic jam.

An hour later the drama had a happy ending.

The action-packed reel finally rolled up to the delight of cinemagoers. Cheers went up all around. But it wasn't for Spiderman. It was for a new hero . . . Deliveryman.
