Bampton . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .3

Okehampton Argyle 3rds . . . . . . . . . 1

THE thirds had a different line-up as their regular goalkeeper was on holiday. Some unfamiliarity within the defence and a touch of complacency brought their unbeaten run to an end.

Okehampton tried to play cultured football, however the opposition?s long ball game paid off. Despite the defeat, Argyle had most of the possession with good efforts from Harris, W Eddy and Morgan. Spence pounced on many occasions and Weekes put in 100%, to no avail.

Bampton launched a rare attack on 27 minutes, and scored. Stepto and Morgan raised their games in midfield and initiated many good attacking moves. Argyle moved the ball around well, but could not find their way through an often 10 man defensive line-up.

A neat move by Stepto and Spence ended in a penalty, converted in good style by Spence. Bampton scored again, to make it 2:1 at half-time.

Two substitutions were made, Cropp for R. Eddy, and Arnott for Weekes. Bampton started brightly and Argyle were relieved to see their early shots go over the bar.

Stepto injured his foot during a defensive challenge and was replaced by Coleman.

Argyle continued to take the game to Bampton, with Monnox working tirelessly to create moves up the left flank. Cropp did his best to organise the defence, and Hooper made a number of important interceptions at right back. Okehampton could not find the equaliser as Bampton did everything they could to disrupt the Argyle flow which, in the end, proved an effective and decisive tactic.
