CHRISTIANS in the Okehampton area will hold a special service in the town this weekend, which will provide a significant pointer to the future of worship in the area in future.

The united service will be held at Okehampton Castle on Sunday May 9 and will be conducted by Father Peter Morgan of St Boniface RC Church.

Local churches will be signing an agreement outlining how they intend to work together in the future. Mike Davies of Inspiration will give a short homily about unity, in his capacity as chairman of Christians Together in Okehampton.

Mr Davies said: ?This is a significant time in the history of the church in Okehampton. I am hoping that as many people as possible will be able to attend and witness the various church ministers coming into our new working agreement.?

The other churches involved in the service are the New Life Church, Fairplace Methodist and URC, All Saints Parish Church, Inspiration (Church of the Nations), the Salvation Army, Okehampton Baptist and St Boniface.

The service is due to begin at 5pm, not the more usual time of 6pm. In the event of severe weather, it will be held at St Boniface?s Church.
