WELL-KNOWN St Dominick resident Herbert Buckle celebrated his 100th birthday last week.

Herbert was born in the Lake District but moved to St Dominick 66 years ago. His first job was as a lorry driver for the late Fred Rogers.

Later he went to work at Langsford's Mill at Cotehele, first as a lorry driver, then later in the office. With his late wife, Olive, they became involved in village life.

Herbert was actively connected with the carnival when St Dominick had its own, and the flower show. He was also involved with the building of the village hall.

A lifelong member of the Church of England, a special service was held for Herbert for his birthday at St Dominick Church conducted by Canon Andrew Wilson.

Herbert has two daughters, Dawn and Ann, three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Dawn had travelled from New Zealand to celebrate the occasion.

A party was held in St Dominick Village Hall, attended by family, and friends from the village and surrounding area.
