MOUNT Kelly welcomed internationally renowned cellist Guy Johnston to the prep assembly reently, following his performance as soloist with the Plymouth Symphony Orchestra.

Guy is a soloist, chamber musician and guest principal of leading orchestras around the world as well as being Professor of Cello at the Royal Academy of Music. He has won many awards, including the BBC Young Musician of the Year and a Classical Britain Award.

Guy performed the Prelude to Bach's G Major Suite for solo cello, as well as the Swan from Carnival of the Animals by Saint Saens, accompanied by Liz Twyman. He entertained the children from years 2 to 8, with stories of his early experiences of music, about how he started as a cellist, what inspires him in life and work and a bit about his 300-year-old Italian cello.
