OKEHAMPTON is to host a sports 'Network' event, organised by the West Devon organisation 5X30, and is calling for sports organisers to get involved. The event will take place on Thursday March 15, and the organisation is calling for anybody who runs a sports club or group, or who is keen to develop new physical activities for the Okehampton area to go along and find out about how the 5X30 project can help them to source grants, find a venue, and develop their ideas. A spokesman for the project said: 'Two 5X30 Network events have already been held very successfully in Tiverton and Crediton. 'Participants at those found them a fantastic opportunity to make contacts and swap ideas. 'Among the new projects now being set up as a result of the meetings are yoga classes, cycling clubs, and bell-ringing groups.' The main aim of the 5X30 project is to help spread the message that in order to maintain good health, an adult should do 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise five times a week or an hour a day for children and teenagers. Funded by the Big Lottery Fund and Sport England, its work covers 118 parishes across Mid and West Devon. For more information, and to attend the Okehampton event, please contact the project by calling 01884 234390, or by visiting their new website, http://www.5X30.org">www.5X30.org which also contains information about other local events, and updates on the work of the organisation.
