MAY I offer a plea to all you shopkeepers on behalf of myself and my fellow doggie friends.

As we are all well aware summer appears to be well and truly here at last. I know my loving humans love this time of year but for we doggies it can be a very traumatic time.

When we are in the town with our owners, while they visit your shops, we wait patiently outside each shop for them to buy their bits and bobs, hoping that among their purchases there will be a little treat or two for us; we are getting hotter and thirstier.

Two or three years ago many of you very kind and caring shop owners remembered us and placed a bowl of water outside your shop so that we could quench our thirst.

Unfortunately, last year very few of you did this and my owners had to resort to taking water and a bowl with them so I would not suffer.

It would be so kind of you if some of you would begin to put a clean bowl of water out for us again.

Your kindness will be so much appreciated and will not be forgotten either by my fellow four-legged friends, our owners, or me.

Oh, just one last thing, I have seen so many of my friends cooped up in a car with either no window open or only a very small gap.

Please, please, if you can't take us with you when you leave your car, then let us stay at home where we can stay cool and not at risk of death from heat exhaustion.

I think a lot of my fellow Okehampton residents know me because I have been a resident myself for 13 years and if you see me in the town please feel free to come and say hello.

Thank you for listening to my plea. Have a wonderful summer.

With all my love.
