IT IS no wonder that skateboarders who are forced to use the Wharf are becoming a nuisance (Police Desk; Times, February 7).

Local skateboarders are frustrated at the lack of facilities and have had to adapt to using the area around the Wharf. This area will always be used until such time as a proper skatepark is built.

We cannot stop skateboarding just because there are some signs telling us so. Do people expect us just to go home and do nothing? We all know the Wharf is a bit dangerous but it is not just the skateboarders who do not always show consideration. Many times I have witnessed motorists actually speed up when they see a skateboarder in the road then as they brake suddenly behind them they shout, swear and beep their horns as if the skateboarder had been at fault.

Who is more dangerous: a teenager having fun on a skateboard or a spiteful adult behind the wheel?

The need for a proper skatepark for Tavistock could never be stronger. Please try and support and understand the skateboarders' situation. They are doing something that gets them out of the house, keeps them fit and is fun.
