MUSICAL styles from the Balkans to the Mediterranean will be bringing a balmy Southern atmosphere to Chagford?s Jubilee Hall this weekend. The band ?Gadjo? was formed on the streets of Barcelona in 2003 ? though one of its members has more local connections. Musician Sam Watson?s parents Mike and Libby have lived for many years in Sticklepath. Now Sam is returning to South West England, bringing with him music which he describes as: ?a multitude of musical styles from the Balkans to the Mediterranean.? Gadjo?s style, he says, contains ?the raw, exciting, flamboyant and comic styles of street entertainers.? In the Romany language, the band?s name means ?non gypsy?. Nevertheless, the band has travelled across Europe with Romany freedom, playing at theatres, castles, circuses, clubs and barges on a range of instruments that includes flutes, trombones. trumpets, alto and tenor sax, and even a tuba. The Chagford gig is on Saturday August 17 The doors will open at 8pm.
