Chard 4

TWO penalties for the visitors and an own goal by Zeal coupled with a missed penalty by the home side were the main reasons that Zeal lost yet again on Saturday.

Chard went a goal up when defender Lee Gilbert was adjudged by the referee to foul a Chard forward — the resulting penalty giving keeper Reg Wonnacott no chance.

The visitors went two up when a ball that should have been cleared was diverted into the net during a bit of a mix-up in the Zeal defence.

Redd Cann pulled a goal back for Zeal and they should have equalised soon after but a missed penalty let the visitors off the hook.

Half time came with Zeal 2-1 down but optimistic that the game could be won with the wind at their backs in the second half.

Zeal dominated the second half but missed chance after chance and paid the penalty when the visitors broke twice to put the game out of reach, however even in the final ten minutes the home side could have scored four times but only a well taken goal by Harley Cann gave Zeal some consolation.
