I AM very privileged to live in this beautiful part of Devon and I am (sort of!) happy to pay my council tax to maintain its beauty. We endeavour to make our home attractive and share it with visitors who come to love this area and return for their holidays.
As we struggle to recover from the ravages of our trade from foot and mouth disease and do our utmost to tempt visitors to bring their money to Tavistock we find an increase in litter and rubbish along our hedgerows.
People needing to dispose of rubbish at the Crowndale tip find it sometimes locked and often, even when they transport waste at their own expense, they are forbidden to leave it. No advice can be offered what to do with it. The temptation to relieve their frustration by dumping in a quiet corner of hedgerow is great!
Our season is just getting under way after all the problems. Do we have to collect this litter to find there is nowhere to put it?
Newspaper, council, contractors, somebody . . . help!
