AFTER sitting waiting to get through the lights at Westbridge, Okehampton, I thought I would like to involve people in my idea for enhancement of the area.

Firstly, I would narrow the central island to more or less the same width as the other island in Fore Street. (This would be on the Lloyds Bank side). After all, no one seems to have problems turning up into George Street do they?

This side of town really has less people crossing so shouldn't need such a large island.

Secondly, the extra width gained by doing this and slightly re-aligning the road markings to the right would enable larger vehicles more room to turn left into Market Street without swinging out to the right because they would be already there.

This, of course, would still allow the format of having two lanes available to use, hence better flow of traffic, which everyone needs.

I would also have thought that this would be very cost-effective as very little work would be needed to do this. No pavements need be touched.

Obviously, policing of vehicles who park too close to the island outside the White Hart would have to be stringent.

Lastly, is it only me, or has anybody else noticed the increase in vehicles over the size of 7.5-tons travelling through the town? .Surely, they don't all unload goods here.
