Tavistock 1st XI 1

Plymouth University 0

TAVISTOCK men?s hockey team needed a solid performance after an unsettled game against PGSOB.

Top of the league Plymouth Uni put the pressure on from the start, but one-on-one tackling from Lethbridge kept the opposition at bay.

Smooth linking play between Edwards, Holden and Honey rattled the opposition but could not be capitalised on.

The first half continued with end-to-end play. Barratt with some skilful individual runs up the middle kept Tavistock pushing forward.

The second half started well with Tavistock eager to score. Some good passing round the pitch resulted in them getting some shots on goal with Andrews and Kelly having their chances.

Luck fell onto Tavistock when they were ordered a penalty flick. Captain Kevin Lethbridge was given the duty to take it but missed the right hand post by inches.

Tavistock were more eager to score and with a hard shot on goal Barratt also missed by inches.

Plymouth upped their game which resulted in them slotting away a short corner.

Man of the match: John Barratt.

This week Tavistock play Marjons.

Okehampton 0

Tavistock A 2

WITHa brief break in league fixtures Tavistock travelled to Okehampton for a friendly. The game was played at pace in the first half and with Tavistock playing some of their best hockey this season.

The first goal came from a well rehearsed short corner routine, Young passing the ball to J Thompson who struck it hard into the back boards of the Okehampton goal.

Tavistock relished the freedom of the midfield and were able to play good passing hockey. This led to the second goal. Mackintosh played the ball straight through the Okehampton defence for Frampton to score, having only the goalkeeper to beat.

In the second half Tavistock found Okehampton more likely to score. Okehampton played well and finally scored from a short corner only to have the umpire disallow the goal, much to the relief of the Tavistock team and captain Mouse.

Glanville had the Tavistock defence well organised and Okehampton struggled to break through.

This week is a league match away to Marjons with a 3.30pm push back.
