Okehampton U14s 39 Exeter Saracens U14s 0 After a couple disappointing games at the start of this season, this was a much improved performance. Straight from the start, playing up the slope, Okehampton took the game to the visitors and were rewarded with a try when Captain Will Hawking rumbled over to score under the posts, converted by Kevin Dennis. From a penalty outside the Exeter 22 metre line, Darcy Heard took a quick tap, sidestepped a couple defenders to score a unconverted try, which was followed by a typical Rob Stepto try who along with the rest of the back row of Merrick Kirby and Matt Webber had an excellant game. With Okehampton?s confidence rising, Huw Draper made some good yardage, and with some excellent recycling and off-loading, Heard scored his second try. The home side?s scrimmaging worked well, with Andy Fishliegh taking many against the head, allowing the backs plenty of ball, from a ruck on half-way, Hawking in the fly half position kicked cross field for Dennis to gather and score a try under the posts which he duly converted to make the score 29-0 at the break. The second half should have seen the Okes stretch their lead, but with several changes at half time and Exeter raising their game, play became a bit disjointed. Special mention must go to Edwin Kendall who playing in his first game put in an impressive performance. Okehampton eventually scored when Stepto broke through and put James Speak in at the corner, followed by a try from Matt Webber to round off a very solid performance.
