TAVISTOCK's Crowndale Recreational Association scored another coup this week, after hearing it has netted a grant from the Football Association for new soccer equipment.
The FA has awarded a grant of £2,632 to the CRA, enabling them to buy seven sets of mini-soccer goal posts and nets for the new pitches which are to be created in the Crowndale Valley.
CRA chairman John Warne said: 'It's another goal scored for us — it's more good news for Tavistock.'
The CRA had to provide 35 per cent of the funding towards the aluminium goal sets, which are vandal-proofed.
Mr Warne is hoping the mini soccer pitches at Crowndale will be in use by junior teams next season.
But although a turf-cutting ceremony was held in October, work still has not begun on the pitches.
Mr Warne said the ground is still too wet for the contractors to start work.
'I am in the hands of the contractor. We are looking for a good dray spell — it's a bit frustrating,' he said.
The creation of the mini pitches is being funded largely by a grant of more than £22,000 from the Football Association.
The CRA is hoping to apply for further, greater funding from the FA to provide new changing facilities, toilets, turnstiles and a small clubroom at Crowndale.
The bid is expected to be submitted around the end of this year.
