THE 18th Century and the 1980s meet when Tavonians Theatre Company present Alan Ayckbourn's comedy A Chorus of Disapproval.

The storyline skilfully interweaves and mirrors John Gay's 18th century The Beggar's Opera.

The plot centres on a diffident widower who joins the local amateur light operatic society. He is cast in a small role in their production of The Beggar's Opera, but during rehearsals things change as he finds himself rapidly ascending the amateur theatrical ranks, not only taking the lead role but becoming the centre of attention — in more ways than one. His impact on the operatic society, though quite unintentional, is devastating — but the show must go on.

With its marvellous characters and some clever writing, A Chorus of Disapproval has become one of Ayckbourn's best loved comedies.

Performances run from Tuesday November 18 to Friday 21at 7.30pm. Tickets £8 from the Wharf box office on 01822 611166.
