TAVISTOCK Rugby Club have been forced to wait another fortnight for the first team?s eagerly anticipated Powergen Junior Vase clash against Mount?s Bay, after Saturday?s fixture was cancelled due to the weather.

The team were about to leave for St Austell when they heard the referee?s decision to call off the quarter-final game.

Coach Chris Greatrex said: ?He did a pitch inspection at 10am when it was still covered in snow. He said it was frozen underneath.

?It was disappointing ? as far as we were concerned it should have gone ahead, but he had to make a decision at some stage and he made it earlier rather than later.

?It was mad panic then, trying to get hold of people ? thank goodness for mobile phones!?

Chris said the match should be played on March 13 at Penzance, although this has yet to be confirmed.

He said the extra wait for the game and the changed venue may even benefit the Tavistock side ? provided they do not pick up any injuries during this Saturday?s league game against Tamar Saracens.

Tavistock have already taken some notable scalps during the Powergen competition. If they manage to beat Mount?s Bay, a team they regard as the best of the remaining sides, they will face yet another away fixture, this time against Yorkshire side North Ribblesdale in the semi-final ? and be just one game away from a Twickenham final.
