CYCLE route improvements at Roadford Lake are on track thanks to a generous grant.

The environmental charity South West Lakes Trust has recently been awarded a grant from North West Devon Leader+ to the sum of £1,431 for enhancements to the four-mile loop cycle track.

This will include way-marking of the route, information signs and safety railings where appropriate. The total cost of the project is in the region of £3,000 of which the balance will be made up by the charity.

John Dennis, development officer for the trust said: ?The grant from North West Devon Leader+ will help to make needed improvements and increase the usage of the track.

?The work will be carried out over the next three months and we may even have enough for a bench or two.?

The cycle route is already open to the public but the grant will also go towards producing a new leaflet to inform people about the route, which is mostly off-road.

There are some challenging sections, but also rewarding views across the lake and the opportunity to see the wildlife of Culm Grassland and recently planted forest.

Once the improvements are complete the trust hopes to hold promotional days and an opening event to kick-start cycling at Roadford for 2003.
