Duchy division one

Bere Alston Reserves 2

Godolphin Atlantic 0

THE first half was an even affair with both teams having plenty of the ball. Promotion chasing Godolphin looked sharp with their quick passing football.  However Joe Hodgkiss for Bere came close to opening the scoring when he was put through one-on-one but the keeper saved well.

Bere tried getting Daymond and Simpson into the game on the wings as with their pace and skill could cause the back four some trouble.  Westlake moved into midfield to help Berey get a grip off the game as Godolphin were having too much time on the ball and keeping it well. Although Godolphin had plenty of the ball, they created little chances as the back four worked very well to keep them at bay.

At half time Berey swapped Daymond for Rich Alpin and Berey moved into a 4-1-3-2 formation with Rich sitting just in front on the back four and Westlake moving back upfront with Hodgkiss.

Bere finally made the breakthrough when a cross from the left from Simpson went through everyone in the box and Nick Alpin tapped in at the back post.  This gave the whole team a lift and soon after created many more chances with Hodgkiss, Smalley and Nick Alpin all being denied by the keeper. Bere made the game safe when Simpson sent a long ball to Darren Smalley who controlled very well and blasted the ball into the top right hand corner from 20 yards.

This was an excellent result for Bere.
