COMMUNITIES in West Devon are being urged to apply for a share of a £100,000 pot earmarked to help reduce crime and make people feel safer.

West Devon Borough Council is urging local organisations and charities not to miss out on the grassroots funding being offered by Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Tony Hogg.

The PCC's small grants scheme aims to put communities at the heart of policing and find new ways to help people help themselves.

Groups are invited to bid for grants of up to £5,000 for projects which will have a positive impact on crime prevention, safeguarding the vulnerable or community safety.

Cllr Philip Sanders, leader of the borough council, said: 'West Devon is already a safe place to live but any schemes that help reduce crime further and make people feel more secure can only be a good thing.'

The deadline for the latest round of applications is the end of October.
