Devon & Exeter League Premier Division Okehampton Argyle 1 Witheridge 3 OKEHAMPTON slipped back into the relegation zone following this defeat. Even though they battled away throughout the match, Witheridge always seemed to have a slight edge, and in the end deserved their victory. The only excuse Argyle can offer for this poor start to the season is a plague of injuries, which have been sustained mainly by defenders. Hopefully some of these players are now on the mend and will be available for selection very soon. Witheridge took an early hold on this game when Tony Vigus cut in from the left in the tenth minute and with just Chris Dearing to beat found the corner of the net with a fine shot. Argyle?s chances were few and far between in the first half, their main concern being to stop the Witheridge side from scoring again. This they did, but the defence was breached again two minutes into the second half, John Bradford forcing himself past a half tackle from Mike Vernon before shooting past an exposed Chris Dearing. Okehampton were briefly back into the game on the hour when Steve Williams was quick enough to beat the Witheridge keeper to a back pass, and stab the ball into the net. Witheridge went back into a two goal lead 15 minutes from time, when John Bradford notched his second goal, heading in a fine cross from the right. Good efforts from Nick Drew and Robby Sandercock went close for Argyle as the clock ticked away. A rasper from Stuart Cann that rattled the crossbar in the last minute was all that could be shown for Argyle?s efforts. This week Argyle face the long trip to Seaton Town, who at present hold third position in the league. Kick-off is 2.30pm.
