TAVISTOCK Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club played five matches during the week, winning two and losing three of them. The ladies section faced Yealmpton Ladies on Monday and won their game 45-28, thanks to a good 25-7 victory by skip Betty Browse and her crew. On Tavistock?s second rink skip Sue Silcox and her team fought out a close game, finally going down 20-21. The ladies faced Plymstock Bees on Friday and lost 32-40, after skip Sue Silcox led her team to a 20-17 victory, only to see skip Betty Browse and her crew lose 12-23. The men?s section faced their old adversary, Plymouth Sir Francis Drake on Wednesday at Tavistock and ended the match 97-70 victors? thanks to good wins on rinks led by Mike Allen and Vic Stacey. Mike led his crew of Harvey Leach, Ray Meneer and George Blackburn to a 36-7 victory, whilst skip Vic Stacey and his team of Mike Silcox, Wallace Northey and Barry Chappell, ran out 36-20 winners. Skip Norman Paramor and his team of, Brian Ellicott, Geoff Cork and Bill Ashe, lost 14-25, whilst skip, Malcolm Bloomer and his crew of, David Perry, Mike Felles and Ernie Piper, went down 11-18. Thursday saw a mixed team facing opponents from Barnstaple?s United Services Club in a match that finished in heavy rain. Tavistock lost the match by one shot (84-85), with skip Vic Stacey and his crew achieving a 21-14 win thanks to them winning six of the last seven ends played. Skip Mike Allen and his crew won three of the last four ends played to snatch a 20-18 victory and skip Clive Jago and his squad notched up a 20-10 victory after winning five of the last seven ends played. Losing skips were, Ernie Piper (14-21) and Malcolm Bloomer (9-22). The four rink match against Yealmpton ended in a 63-83 defeat for the Tavistock mixed team despite each side winning two of the four rinks played. Tavistock?s winning rinks were; Skip Mike Allen(20-14) and Skip, Malcolm Bloomer(23-17).
