Okehampton Rugby Club U12s 40 Torrington U12s 0 OKEHAMPTON kicked off and attacked with gusto making good use of all players. The game swung up and down the pitch but Okehampton were showing a new confidence in their game skills and opened the score line. During the set piece scrums the Okehampton eight held on against the Torrington squad who were playing with a pair of replacements second row forwards from the year above. This made the scrimmages well matched and Oke did not suffer. New skills learnt in training was demonstrated by Tom whose clearance kicking was excellent. By the end of the first half Okehapton had crossed the line four times. The second half saw Torrington change tactics and use their heavier players to attempt to force their way through the Oke defence but all to no avail. Good ball handling and using the full playing area allowed Okehampton to maintain the pressure and show their full potential. By the final whistle they had crossed the line twice more and stopped Torrington from crossing the line. Full praise must go not only to the try scorer but to the rest of the squad for their full support of their comrades with well executed tackles and ball handling. Tries: Rob (two), Dean, Lamey (two) and Tom. Con: Liam, five Liskeard RFC u12s 0 Tavistock RFC u12s 28 TAVISTOCK started strongly from the kick off and were rewarded by an early try by Sam Northmore from a fast run along the touchline. As is often the case for Tavistock the opposition fielded a stronger and heavier pack with the capability of winning the ball from scrums. The forwards fought back from this disadvantage throughout the match. Kristian Sprangle, Martin Budden and Dominic Dowson were notable in their presence. The advantage in the backs lay with Tavistock who demonstrated their skills in accurate and fast ball passing. The second Tavistock try was a direct result of a clearance ball from Liskeard being intercepted by Tavistock to be followed by a run from Rhys Davies and a pass to enable the waiting Sam Northmore to take the ball almost at the Liskeard line and push over. In the second half a Tavistock run was halted by an accurate Liskeard tackle, but the loose ball was picked up smartly by Jonty Newton who drove over the line. Liskeard put constant pressure in the Tavistock half and were unlucky to be denied a try when Tavistock held the ball up on their line. The Liskeard pack consistently showed cohesion and were quick to pick up the loose ball. Their efforts to use their backs to effect were deflected by accurate marking from the Tavistock backs and strong tackling. The presence of Conor Scott, Jack Crozier and Thomas Russon reinforced the forwards' efforts to withstand the Liskeard onslaught and impede their progress. The final Tavistock try resulted from a ball won in the scrum being passed through Frazer Bayliss and Henry Kisby to Rhys Davies who found a gap in the Liskeard defences. As this was an extra fixture filling a vacant slot in the calendar the teams will meet again this season with both sides looking forward to another well contested match with the advantage of knowing each other's strengths.
