Juventus U15s League
Okehampton Argyle 2
Rennes Utd 6
ALL the spirit Argyle had shown in recent weeks evaporated against a team they so narrowly lost to earlier in the season.
This was a game Okehampton could have had a chance of winning but they collapsed in the face of Rennes' skilfulness and confidence.
The four first half goals came mainly through slack marking or poor tackling as the home team failed to find any shape or rhythm. Sampson, in the Argyle goal, was probably the most worked player and, if he made any mistakes, he more than atoned for them as he kept Rennes at bay with a brave display.
Leyman and Pride deputised for Halliday and Callaghan after the break, giving Okehampton more width and bite.
Hampson dropped back to a more accustomed role at the back and Argyle began to come back into the game. Despite creating a couple of chances for Ditchburn and Leyman, whose volley just flew wide, Okehampton conceded two more goals and looked to be heading for a fruitless morning. That is until the referee awarded them a penalty for what looked like an accidental handball. The task was given to Aron Ditchburn who scored with a sweet shot.
Within minutes he scored again, following a crisp passing move involving Pride, Pengelly and Leyman, as he turned his marker and half-volleyed past Rennes' keeper.
In a matter of minutes, Argyle had shown their capabilities but it was too late for it to bother their opponents.
Man of the match Mark Hampson.
Appledore U12s 0
Okehampton U12s 11
OKEHAMPTON started slowly as the home side battled stubbornly.
Andrew Herrod-Taylor struck the opener, then Okehampton got in their stride and goals flowed.
Herrod-Taylor finished with five and was joined on the scoresheet by Squires, King, Chapman, Wonnacott and Matravers with two.
Kyle Matravers' first was a cracking volley flying over the home side's keeper and Wonnacott's goal was a rasping drive from 20 yards.
Man of the match: Andrew Herrod-Taylor.
Okehampton U10s 2
Bude U10s 1
OKEHAMPTON battled well on a windy day having all the best chances and most of the possession.
The side played good football in both halves, only good goalkeeping meant that they did not add to goals by Jack Britton and Matt Mortimer.
Chris Hollands was solid in defence and was just pipped to man of the match by Jamie Atherton.
This week home to Southgate.
